Anti-Plastic Pollution (3 ways to contribute)

It's been a while since i last made a post here in my blog. As a comeback, I decided to make my new post quite meaningful. This is about the environment. Yes! I've always wanted to be active in making our environment better but I have never been consistent. This time I will try my best to retain my spirit and passion in saving the emvironment.

What inspired me was this show I watch in tvN called Hyori TV (i will post about this show later).

When i went to Tagaytay, i noticed that almost all stores in there uses paperbags rather than plastic bags. And when I went to Manila, supermarkets, department stores, botiques, and others, strongly promotes totte bags or reusable bags to their customers for shopping. So anyways, I decided to focus my environmental passion in anti plastic pollution.

Plastics are almost non-biodegradable, which means it will never be decomposed, and it will retain in the surface of the earth for a very very long time. Just imagine how much volume of plastics are made each day and people just throw it away! I can just foresee mountains of trash plastics covering our mountains, and there will be no more space for plants to grow and animals to live. Plastics thrown at see may dominate the waters and there will be no more space for fishes and other sea animals to lay eggs and swim.

1. Recycle and Reuse Plastics.
There are variety of ways you can make disposable plastics useful at home or work. You can it out and make it useful in other bizzare ways. Microwavable plastic containers can be used as container of accessories with its transparent quality.

2. Use Recycable Multi-Use Shopping Bags.
I'm so happy these items are available everywhe at very affordable and cheap prices. These things also comes in different designs and colors.

 3. Reuse Plastic Jugs and Bottles.
I read that reusing plastic water bottles is harmful to health - I say don't but them. I advise to buy those plastic jugs or water containers that are safe to reuse, like this Sola Iced Tea container. It is also better to bring along water with you so you will not be forced to buy water from disposable bottles if you become thirsty.

There are actually numerous ways to fight plastic pollution, but it all starts with prevention - prevent buying plastics and gathering them in your home or work.

As for me, whenever I get medicines from the pharmacy, I prefer to put them on scratch papers-made-to-small-bags than putting on a plastic bag.

I also bought from a beauty store called HBC, and they just give you out the product and receipt without the plastic bag. They have this slogan "Walang Plastikan" (no plastic).

Anyways, there will be more about this. I am so excited to share with you my ideas and pledges for our environment.

FHM Philippines Racist Cover

This was supposed to be the cover of FHM's March 2012 issue. Before releasing the final cover output, Bela Padilla's FHM cover was bombarded with criticisms saying that it is too racist. The cover featured Bela Padilla with dark-skinned women behind and beside her, with the caption saying "Bela Padilla Stepping Out of the Shadows". Bela and FHM publicly apologized for the negative impression the cover conveyed to the public. In the end, the magazine company cancelled the release and decided to change cover and featured celebrity.

Mix & Match : Tutu Skirt

Tutu skirts are primarily used by ballerinas, but it is also used as a fashion icon by many fahsionistas. I think one of the main reasons is that it gives you a certain unique chic flare once you use it.

Just like jeans, tutu skirts can be paired with anything. With 'anything' I mean you can go rocker, preppy, or you can wear it on a day event, a semiformal, a casual - to make things short, it can be an all-around fashion item. Bur of course you must be able to pair it well with the right top and shoes.

Variety of Tutu skirt colors, designs, cloth, and prints are offered in the market. I suggest you buy colors that are basic and can easily be match with items you have on your closet, or items you will still buy.
Basic colors I suggest are beige, cream, white, black.

Doctor's Bag is Still In!

You know that doctors have their signature bags - the "Doctor Bag". It started to be noticed when home services were done by doctors to whose "elite" people - like those with fever or those going to bear child. It contained tools which would help the doctor assess and cure their in-house patients. I think we all saw this bag at movies from old days.

LV Speedy Bag

In 1930's, when Louis Vuitton designed a ladies' bag called Speedy, perhaps she was inspired by the bags used by the doctors. Not later on, brands like Gucci., Channel, Bottega Veneta and Coach made their own versions of the doctor bag.

Easterbelle's Crocodile skin

Nowadays, the Doctor Bag is becoming quite popular again that it's not just doctors who use it. It is now a fashion item. A must-have that caters both style and functionality. It is mostly made of leather, usually a hand bag, but some has slings for shoulder use. I have one Doctor Bag which I inherited from my grandmom - it looks vintage and cool. Here are some Doctor Bag styles you would want to have:

Nikki Minaj's 2012 Grammy's Performance was Disrespectful!

Have you seen Nicki Minaj's Grammy's performance? If you didn't then I bet you heard about it, right? It's been buzzing throughout the internet, TV, and elsewhere.

Her performance was thought to be the biggest performance for the Grammy's night that producers placed it towards the end of the Grammy's to keep viewers staying tuned to the show. However, instead of gaining appraisals, Minaj's performance became a subject of criticisms.

(watch video from youtube)

Minaj sang her song "Roman Holiday". The performance started with a confession to a priest, then showed a video of a priest performing exorcism, and ended with her levitating above the stage.

Valentine's Recommendation: I Kissed Dating Goodbye

Last 2010, I read a book called "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" by author Joshua Harris. It was actually a Christian self-help book. It's just a think book you can finish reading it in a day. It consists of sample stories and quotations which you can really relate.

Now, Valentines Day is up coming so I decided to recommend this book to those people who are single or those who are struggling with their love life. I, personally, been through a lot of rocky roads before with regards to my love life. A friend introduced me to this book. I was reluctant to read it since I'm not really a reader, and I guess I was just too stubborn to get some help back then. In the end, I just gave it a try. There were many, or rather plenty of times which I found myself nodding while reading. I could relate to almost everything. I think you also need an open mind while reading.

Whitney Houston dies at 48

Shocking news for the music and hollywood industry - Whitney Houston died on Saturday. At age 48, Houston's body was found at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles around 3:20pm. By 2:55pm, Houston was pronounced dead by emergency personnels.

The cause is still unknown, but the police said that there was no sign of criminal intent at the scene of her death.

Whitney Houston is one of the great singers of her time - and my time. I always looked up to her ability to deliver a song with such powerful voice and passion. May her soul rest in peace.

Lassie Online - Give-aways!

I had an online fashion store which I closed because I didn't had much time to attend to my customers. I also have two other friends who had online stores which they close due to the same reason I had. And now, the three of us decided to open up a new online store and we will collaborate in running the business. We will be joined by my cousin, so it'll be four of us.

We have different styles and fashion-beauty needs, so I guess our online store will cater wide variety of styles and products. I think many people can relate and will have different things to choose from.

We are currently working on it as for now. We are dedicated to pursue and work hard for this online store this year.

Anyway, the name of the online store is LASSIE ONLINE. Lassie means "women", so therefore, we will be catering more of the for-girls stuffs. But expect to see for guys and unisex items. Check out our page in facebook , and please LIKE it...

We will conducting a give-away for five women. Here are the items we will be giving away:

Product: Natural Body Recipe Exfoliating Body Soap

I went to the nearest mall and looked for a goat's milk soap. I ended buying this product: Natural Body Recipe Exfoliating Body Soap. It contains goat's milk, honey, oatmeal & vitamin E.

Goats milk has long been used to skin due to its moisturising properties; it also contains vitamins A & B. Honey has the ability to absorb and retain moisture that's why it is said to help in anti aging. Oatmeal is a healthy food, and it is also healthy for the skin since it helps remove dirt and impurities by removing dead skin and dry skin. Vitamin E contains antioxidants which helps rejuvenate and give your skin a nice glow.

So I bought this product from HBC, a local beauty store... and it was actually my firs time to buy on that store. They have nice product - specially the line of the Natural Body Recipe brand. Another good thing about the store is that they don't use plastic bags when your buy. They just wrapped the soap box with the receipt. I think they have a tote bag for shopping. I think I will be buying more often here - especially now that I know they have "natural" products, and they are helping the environment too!

I immediately used the soap when I took a bath this evening. I can say that it was very refreshing - it literally felt good! I could feel my skin being exfoliated due to the presence of the oats. I dont think frequent scrubbing of skin is healthy - but this one is not scrubbing but it feels like one - well actually, it felt like a mild version of scrubbing. I think I can live with that everyday.

I think I am going to stick with this product!

Talent: After School

I couldn't help but blog about the talent of this Korean girl band - After School.

They started out as a five-member band with the concept of Pussy Cat Dolls version of Korea. With their sexy image, they immediately captured the heart of many fans. After some time, the band has undergone many changes in the line up of their members. Currently, they have 8 members. Their image nowadays is more mature, and focusing more in to their talents. After watching After School's appearances on different variety shows, I ended up concluding that they are one of the most talented and most beautiful girl groups in Korea. Too sad they are not much recognized compared to other girl groups who I personally think does not deserve to be called "singers". Apart from being singers, I can say that After School are also "artists".

Please watch this music video of the girls dancing. You would really say- beauty & talent- they got it both!

Featured Stylists: Yang Sengho and Daniel Lee

The Korean girl group 2NE1 has been making waves since their debut in 2009. They had made a very big influence throughout Asia and some places in Europe and America; this entails not just in the music industry but also in the fashion industry. 2NE1's success would not be possible without the two important people behind their colorful and edgy style - their stylists Yang Seung Ho (AKA Yanggaeng or Xin) and Daniel “Sexy” Lee.

Iza Caldazo joins ABSCBN!

Wow! I'm so amazed and happy by the news that Iza Calzado (one of my favorite female Filipino actress) signed a 3-year contract with ABSCBN (my favorite, and one of the leading television companies in the Philippines) last Tuesday. She will be having a drama show, a reality show, and some movies. I am so excited for her to be paired up with John Llyod Cruz (my favorite male Filipino actor)!

There are many beautiful celebrities in the Philippines, and many dresses well. It's so hard to chose which one is the best, but for me, one of the fee celebrities who really stands out is Iza Calzado. Iza is a unique person because she can be boyish yet still remain like a goddess. Whatever you let her wear, she brings out the best of those pieces.

Happy New Hair Alert: Miley Cyrus

Another celebrity with a new hair style which made a buzz inside and outside hollywood - none other than Ms. Miley Cyrus. She cut her hair short, taking away 5 inches of her previous long hair.

Cyrus said she hasn't had a "real" hair cut (I guess except from trimmings) since 2010. Her hair changes since then was from changing of hair colors from dark to light, then having bangs and long bangs, etc.

I think she looks better with her new short hair. She looks fresh and carefree. This hair style is also low-cost maintenance and needs less effort to keep.

What do you think??

Lauren Condrad with Pink Hair! How?

Lauren Condrad tweeted a picture of her newly-colored pink hair strands. According to her hair colorist, Kristin Ess, they used pink chalk to temporarily color Condrad's hair. It is fun to use chalk because it's so easy to wash away but  Ess advised  to wear your hair on a bun because the color might go to your clothes.

Ess said that she and Condrad will post a tutorial on how to color your hair with chalk on their website.

I just wonder if coloring hair with chalk will be effective with dark brown or black hair? Condrad has blond... I just wonder... Maybe it's up to me to figure it out! LOL.

DIY Cute, Edgy Planner Cover (Recycling)

I wanted to have a planner but I could not find anything from the stores her in our city. I intended to make my own planner - I searched the net on some DIY instructions on how to make a simple one. As I went through some stores this afternoon to buy materials for my DIY planner, I finally found a real planner. It was cheap so I bought it. When I arrived home, I realized that the planner I bought was cheap and looks cheap! So I started to feel disgust towards my new ugly planner. I am a person who likes cute and order...and the planner was just "order" no cute at all! I wanted to give it away and just find another one - a cute one. But then I would be wasting money. It was only Php180, but if you're on financial constraints - small amounts matter. It was like a bulb turned on in my head, like the one you see on TV. I had an idea!! I ended up having this:

Blog Tittle Change

I changed my blog tittle from NOSTALGIA NOT ALLOWED to "Nique In It!" because bloggers mistakenly follow my other blog (www.niquetalks.blogspot.com) just because of the "Nique" name... so better make both with my name....

But above the rest, nothing's changed...just the tittle... I hope everyone will still support my blog. Thanks!

Who wore it better?

Healthy Drink: Carrot-Mango Smoothie

There was a nurse-volunteer in our hospital who owns the only vegetarian restaurant in our city. We used to order food from her for lunch while on duty. One of my favorites from their restaurant is the carrot juice. I wasn't a fan of carrot juice until I tasted their carrot juice. And since I don't see her much lately and I could not order carrot juice anymore, I decided to make my own carrot juice.

This carrot juice has a twist since it's not just plain carrot juice, but a carrot-mango juice/smoothie!

How to Choose the Right Blush Shade for your Skin Tone

Choosing the right shade of blush is one common mistake of women. I, myself, was a victim of wrong blush on color. I have a Medium skin tone and I wore baby pink blush on my cheeks just because everybody at school was wearing it back in college. I also remember some of my classmates who looked like they've been punched on their cheeks because they used pink blushes on their dark skinned cheeks. I also have this one classmate whose cheeks looked like it's about to bleed due to the very thick blush red. Disasters, right? And that's what I will teach you now: How to Choose the Right Blush Shade for your Skin Tone.

baby pink
soft rose
golden appricot
light peach with a touch of pink

light raspberry
sunkissed appricot
soft coral with a little brown undertones

brown suede
deep coral with a little bronze

Remember that the angle of putting your blush on your cheeks will also matter aside from the color. But after learning what shade of blush fits your skin tone, you are already one step ahead. Next step is to throw or give away those blushes you have which do not match your skin tone. It's hard at first to let go of those precious blushes, but believe me you will not regret giving them away after buying new ones which fits you better.
