The Body Shop againt Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People
Human Trafficking is a fast-growing crime nowadays. With more than 1.2 children and young people trafficked a year from different countries all over the world. The incidence of sexual child trafficking is also increasing each year.
Working alongside ECPAT (End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes), The Body Shop launched a global campaign to stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People. The primary aim is to promote awareness and provide funds for the prevention of such.
In 2009, The Body Shop® Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream was launched and the proceeds from each sold product are donated to ECPAT and other anti-human trafficking organizations. As the year ended, The Body Shop gathered £1m for the specific cause.
This summer The Body Shop will be launching a petition calling upon governments to implement strict anti-trafficking policies and legislation, and dedicate more resources to help victims of trafficking. It doesn't end there. Because this is a global campaign, The Body Shop's objective is to join hands with thousands of other signatories around the world by taking the petitions to the United Nations by end of 2011.
